Leena Loves Crafts Dryer Ball at Love Lives Here

My cloth diaper journey has brought me to new and exciting places, most of which I knew little or nothing about.  One of these is the world of wool dryer balls.  I haven't had the pleasure of trying one out yet, but have entered several giveaways in hopes of expanding my fluffy journey.  Wool dryer balls are said to shorten drying time(thereby decreasing utility bills) and reduce static cling(thereby eliminating the need for fabric softener dryer sheets).  Since cloth diapers and fabric softener don't mix, wool dryer balls are a way to achieve static-free status while drying your cloth diapers.

Types of cloth diapers

I found a great blog post defining the different cloth diaper styles with pros and cons of each.  It can be found here.

My 2 cents:  What works for some people may not work for you.  All babies and Mamas are different.  I started out liking the AI2 concept but soon realized that I was too cheap to use the disposable inserts, so AI2's weren't necessary.  It turns out I like the ease of pockets as they are great for overnights and when out and about.  Recently I won an embellished prefold from Sweetpeaboutique and was fortunate to have a few covers to use it with.  It is in a super cute Ooga Booga print and has turned me onto the fun of prefolds for use when at home.

Cloth Diaper Safe Detergents

One of the first questions I had about Cloth Diapers was, "How do I wash them?"  Followed immediately by "Do I need a special (special = expensive?) detergent?"  Well, here is what I've learned...

Cloth Diapers do need to be washed with detergent that is free of optical brighteners, fabric softeners, and bleach.  The most inclusive list of detergents that I've been able to find can be found here: Diaper Jungle Detergent Chart.

I've tried bumGenius Diaper Detergent and Rockin Green Soap and like both.  I also have a few samples from Ruby Moon Natural Laundry Wash and Lulu's Glamour Wash.
